So, what goes into Becel® margarine? We start with a blend of plant-based ingredients, including canola and sunflower oils.

Our canola oil is 100 per cent Canadian. It comes from plants that bloom brightly in July. By late September or early October, their flowers drop away, making them ready for harvest. Around the same time, the heads of sunflowers start to dry out and droop, with their yellow petals falling to the ground. This signals that the seeds are ripe, plump, and full of oil. These seeds are pressed into oils – the basis of our master blend – and with that, the process of making Becel® truly begins.

But why canola and sunflower oils? Not only are they delicious and versatile, they also contribute to a healthy diet by providing essential fat (alpha linoleic acid (ALA) and omega-3 polyunsaturated fat) that bodies need for normal growth and development. In other words, they help make Becel®margarine a product you can feel good about.

Note: In our Becel® Olive Oil variant, olive oil replaces sunflower oil. In our Becel® Avocado Oil variant, avocado oil replaces sunflower oil.
